Sustainability at Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm

At Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and becoming more sustainable. We continue to review our practices and invest in greener solutions to help protect both our local environment and the tropical rainforests where our butterflies originate.

Measures we have already put in place:

  • Eliminating single-use plastics – We stopped selling plastic single-use chilled drinks in our gift shop back in 2018.
  • Encouraging recycling – Recycling bins are available onsite for both visitors and staff.
  • Sustainable products – Most of our plush toys are made from recycled materials.
  • Fairtrade commitment – A large proportion of our giftware is sourced from Fairtrade suppliers, helping to ensure ethical and sustainable production.
  • Supporting local suppliers – Wherever possible, we use local businesses across all aspects of our operations.
  • Investing in renewable energy – We have invested over £10,000 in fitting solar panels.
  • Saving water – Rainwater is collected in water butts and reused onsite.
  • Future plans – We are currently researching options to replace our roof with a more energy-efficient alternative.
  • Protecting rainforests – All of the pupae we purchase come from rainforest communities and projects. These initiatives provide a sustainable income for local people while protecting vital rainforest habitats from being destroyed.
