Stratford Butterfly Farm offers a variety of work experience placements.

Applications are now open for 2025 and 2026 academic years, with placements available from May 2025

  • If you are interested in a work experience placementment and are 16 years or older please send your CV and Cover Letter to minibeasts@butterflyfarm.co.uk
  • Please include the numbers of hours that you require and your availabliity.
  • The Butterfly Farm can accomodate set days per week over a set period of time, or a block week. Please specify in your cover letter
  • Work experience places are limited and subject to an interview
  • It is best to apply with a least 3 months notice of your intended placement
  • Parent applications on behalf of the student will not be considered

Animal Management Work Experience Placement

This programme involves caring for a range of animals including; invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, fish and birds.

You will be asked to help with a wide variety of tasks and daily routines; including cleaning enclosures, feeding the animals and completing general maintenance of the farm.

You may also be asked to carry out ‘Animal Handling Demonstrations’ with the public and engage in visitor interactions.

Some horticulture work could also be expected of you.

All tasks will be carried out under the supervision of Stratford Butterfly Farm staff.

Horticulture Placement

This programme involves caring for the wide range of tropical flora we grow in the farm.

You would learn how to sow, propagate and cultivate; fruit plants, vegetable plants, and feed plants for our butterflies. You would help to maintain the aesthetics of the farm and the constant growth of new stock.

Some animal care work would also be expected of you.

All tasks will be carried out under the supervision of Stratford Butterfly Farm staff.
