During the Christmas period, 27th December- 5th January, families can take part in the popular ‘Meet the Mini Beast’ handling sessions and get close to African millipedes, giant land snails, a variety of stick insects and Madagascan hissing cockroaches! These will be led by our expert education team and take place twice a day in the Discovery Zone.
During your festive visit to the butterfly farm see if you can discover the stunningly beautiful Papilio demodocus, otherwise known as the Christmas butterfly. It is part of the swallowtail family and sourced directly from butterfly farmers of the Kipepeo Project, a community enterprise based in and around the Arabuko-Sokoke forest, Kenya. Kipepeo is Swahili for butterfly and the project provides a sustainable income for the people of this area, demonstrating that conservation can be achieved whist still earning a living.
