Celebrating 100 Years of Sir David Attenborough
To honour this remarkable milestone and Sir David’s lifelong dedication to the natural world, the Butterfly Farm hosted a unique and memorable event.
On Friday 8th May two classes from local schools, Stratford-upon-Avon Primary and Thomas Jolyffe Primary, were invited to take part in the release of 100 stunning Blue Morpho butterflies into the rainforest Flight Area.

The symbolic moment celebrated not only Sir David’s extraordinary legacy, but hopefully inspired the next generation to cherish and protect the beauty of nature.

The celebration was also attended by the Mayor of Stratford-upon-Avon, Dani Hunter, along with Stratford-upon-Avon MP Manuela Perteghella and her Chief of Staff, Jennifer Gray.
Sir David, who has previously visited the Butterfly Farm, has long been an inspiration to the team and to millions around the world through his passion for wildlife and conservation.
The morning event gave children the chance to experience the wonder of butterflies up close, creating a fitting tribute to a man who has spent decades bringing the natural world into our homes and hearts.

His 1983 Wildlife on One documentary: "A Touch of the Butterflies" led to queues forming at my London Butterfly House following its broadcast.
To share this moment with young people makes it even more special, as they are the future custodians of our planet.”
Blue Morpho from Belize on display at Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm
The Blue Morpho butterfly, or Morpho peleides, is the signature butterfly of Stratford-upon-Avon Butterfly Farm.
They are known for their brilliant iridescent blue wings and form part of our display all year round.
The pupae arrives each week from the Butterfly Farm’s sister facility, Fallen Stones in Belize, a conservation and breeding project dedicated to sustainable butterfly farming and rainforest conservation.
